Barking’s Artistic vibrancy has evolved to be at the forefront of regeneration within the borough which now boasts a strong public art presence. Though best known for its industrial heritage, Barking and Dagenham has transformed itself through artistic and cultural provision.

One of the highest profile and most challenging arts projects to date for the borough has been the A13 Artscape, which has been extended, as a concept to encompass the Town Centre – as Barking Town Centre Artscape – and it will continue to grow as the Borough itself becomes the canvas for creative intervention and a ‘gallery without walls’.

Awarded the largest ever public arts lottery grant at the time and now totaling over around £13 Million of arts investment, the Artscapes have helped transform the area. Linking major transport hubs enhancing public spaces, historic buildings and facilities of the area, the Artscapes are some of the most ambitious and innovative public art projects in the UK to date. ‘The Gallery’, newly opened at the Barking Learning Centre provides a space for the exchange and presentation of creative ideas.
